So this bitchin' 74 Opel Manta showed up at Willow Springs yesterday. The skin is all that's left of the Manta, it's built over a Nissan 240SX chassis. Total build by its owner, the engine is an LS3 Crate Motor - and it's got 450hp at the wheels. The build quality was really stellar. It's street legal too! The interesting color on the driver's side is because he found the shell outside a paint shop, and they'd used that side to clear/test their guns. He sanded it and when he realized the pattern, thought it looked cool and left it (unfortunately, he said, he didn't figure that part out until he was back to the original blue paint on the door, or the whole side of the car would be an abstract). Pretty sure it's unique. I sat some passenger laps with the owner driving, and the car is brilliantly sorted. Was pretty surprised by that - it's one thing to cobble together something cool, but have it be a nightmare when you finally use it. Surrounded by Ferraris, McLarens, Lambos and Porsches, this car was the absolute hit of the day.
